Describe a character in fiction, an historical figure, or a creative work (as in art, music, science, etc) that has an influence on you, and explain that influence.
One person that has always influenced me would definitely be Elizabeth Taylor. Elizabeth Taylor was such an amazing woman that has done so much to lots of people. She was a very pretty child and grew even more beautiful as she matured in life. Elizabeth Taylor was a very graceful girl and woman, not a lot of people, if any, have anything bad to say about her. And I will always remember the first time I heard her name. It was actually a bunch of times because I was watching my favorite show one day, The Nanny, and the main character Fran was talking about Elizabeth Taylor and it was the episode where Elizabeth Taylor actually starred in. So, as I’m watching the show I think to myself what is so great about Elizabeth Taylor? Who is she? As soon as the show ended I went online and searched her up. Elizabeth Taylor’s life story is so interesting and I came to idolize her because of all the great and amazing things that she accomplished in her life. Reading about her personal life made me life because Elizabeth Taylor married then divorced then she married again and then she divorced again, one of her husband’s died in a plane crash so then she married his best friend who divorced his wife for her. And it keeps going on like that. One big thing that I really admire Elizabeth Taylor for is her generosity. She has donated millions of dollars to AIDS research and to a lot of charities in general.

Evaluate a significant experience, achievement, risk that you have taken or ethical dilemma you have faced and it’s impact on you.
When I was really little, 2 years old, I unfortunately fell down the stairs. This happened when my mom and I were visiting her friend and having a play date. My mom’s friend lived in an apartment on the 3rd floor of it. And when we were about to leave my mom opened the door and was half way out of it still talking to her friend. I, being the hyper and impatient little girl that I was, ran out through the door and was trying to go down the stairs as fast as I can. On like the third step I lost my footing and tumbled down one stair case. According to my mom I blacked out and had to go to the hospital. To this day I have a little scar on my right wrist that I got from that day. And there are pictures of me with a scab on my nose from falling. This experience of me falling down the stairs impacts me every day because I have to walking down a flight of stairs every morning and at school there are a lot of stairs that I have to go up and down to get to my classes. Ever since I can remember I have been scared of stairs and I have to look down at my feet when I walk up and down on them and I also have to hold on to the railing. A lot of my friends make fun of me everyday because they see me holding on to the railing like it’s my lifeline.

Tell something about yourself that cannot be conveyed from a job/admissions application or activities list/resume.
Something about me that cannot be conveyed from a job or admissions application or activities list resume would have to be that it depends on the day if I can work either with a group or by myself. As I went through out elementary school and middle school I found out that it really depends on the subject of the project and what it’s asking us to do. On some projects I am more than happy and really excited to work with a group but on other projects I feel like I would learn more and overall get a better grade if I worked on the project by myself. And this is something that you really cannot write down on a resume or any application for that matter because it depends on the situation. Like I said earlier it really depends on the subject, if I don’t understand it but someone in the class does and we have to work together for the project I would be more than happy to work with that person because the information might not make sense to me. But if the situation is that I do understand the information and what I am supposed to do, I would really prefer to do it by myself. Another thing that kind of goes with working with a group is that I would feel more comfortable and probably put more input on the project if I know the members of the group. This is a really big part of working in a group for me because I would like to start the project off and know that I can trust the people in my group to get their parts of the project done and not mess it up in any shape or form.

Reflection on the Frankenstein Monster Essay
My monster project came out the way I wanted it to be. The monster that I created was weird but not overly unpleasant and gross. The parts of the monster that I selected go really well together and it makes the monster look like it was actually made out of various human body parts. And I thought that the concept was really important because that’s how Mary Shelly’s monster was made. Plus it’s also how the monster that Victor created looks like, multiple body parts put together. The creation process was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be because it was difficult to find the parts that I wanted and needed. It was also really fun because you could get really creative with the parts that you pick. I used Photoshop for the eyes, which made them a really weird color. The color was weird because it was a color no color human could ever have. All throughout the creation process I tried to find things that would look monster-like. My initial intentions for this monster were to make it look like it was made out of different body parts. And I think that it was a success, because all the body parts looked like they came from different bodies. It was my expectation to make it seem weird and make it look like something a person would never look like. And the monster I made with the different body parts turned out great because I used something as simple and plain as the eyes and gave them a really unusual color to make it look like a monster. With that idea I looked for parts for my monster with that in mind.

What do you think the poem is about? What is the author saying about the subject of the poem?
I think that the poem Dulce et Decorum est is about how some things that people make out to be fantastic and wonderful are some times not really those things. As you read the poem Dulce et Decorum est you kind of get confused at first, I know I sure did. But as you keep reading it over and over again you being to get the idea of it and what it is really saying. And as you read the poem and get to understand it a little better you come to realize that the author, poet Wilfred Owen, does not like war or the idea that it is something that people should be proud of to be a part of. The title is a little ironic because through out the poem you can see how “sweet” it is to fight for your father’s country. The author of Dulce et Decorum est also uses very graphic imagery, and as you are reading the poem you can imagine the scene of what is happening right in front of your eyes. And it is all because the author uses words that picture the scene perfectly.

What was your favorite class in the 2nd quarter? Who’s the teacher? Why?
My absolute favorite class for the second quarter would definitely have to be my Spanish 2 class. I have this amazing class on green days, in sixth period. This class is taught by Mr. Greene who is a long term sub because my old teacher went upstairs to teach IB Spanish. My old teacher had to move up because one of the IB Spanish teachers was getting a better job at some other school. So, while my old teacher moved up we got Mr. Greene because they could not find a qualified Spanish 2 teacher. It is kind of iffy right now but we might get to have him as a sub until the end of the year because they can not find a replacement. I really do not mind though because Mr. Greene has been an awesome teacher so far. It is not like my old teacher was a bad teacher, it was just that she moved at a really fast pace and she was a really hard grader too. The thing that makes Mr. Greene a really amazing teacher is that he actually studied the language in Spain and spoke with the people there that have spoken the language since they were born, so he truly has first hand experience with Spanish. This class is also my absolute favorite class because I can really see myself using this language in the future and I can see myself using Spanish for the rest of my life.

Explain some important themes from the book Frankenstein.
One theme that was in the book Frankenstein was dangerous knowledge. Knowledge can be dangerous if it’s used for the wrong reasons. Like how Victor Frankenstein used his knowledge of science and the human body to create a living person but instead he made a creature, and it turned out to be a very bad thing. If Victor had used his knowledge of science and the human body in a good way like to practice medicine and actually help people it would have turned out better for him then to create a creature and have all his loved ones murdered because of the creature that him created. Victor actually realizes his mistake but he realized the mistake way too late, because he told Robert his story but he did not go in to detail when he was talking about creating the monster and that general time period. He did not want Robert to make the same mistake that he made when he made the creature. Another theme in the book Frankenstein would be secrecy. This is a theme because as Victor was creating his creature he shut every one out of his life. He secluded himself from humanity while he was getting all of the creature’s body parts and other stuff. And by isolating himself from his loved ones and from the people around him he did not take care of himself. That is way he got so sick after the creature ran away and Henry had to nurse him back to health. Also by having the secret of the creature he let Justine be punished for a crime that she did not commit. So, overall dangerous knowledge and secrecy were some very important themes in the book Frankenstein.
...Favorite Poem Project: We Real Cool
The poem We Real Cool is written by Gwendolyn Brooks. It’s read by John Ulrich, student in South, Boston, MA. John, the reader, feels a connection to this poem because he had some bad memories that related to his life and related to this poem. Because of all the people that he went to high school with and died three years later, he felt like the poem related to his situation back then. when he was in high school with all those people he thought that all the things and activities that they were doing were innocent. He did not think that these people that he knew personal would die, he did not know that the deaths of them would affect him this much. He also feels a connection to this poem because it related with his strong, youth innocence that he had back in high school. {Back} This poem relates to me personal and to my life because there are some people that I go to high school with right now that I know are doing some not so smart things. They are doing dangerous things that could really affect them negatively in the future or they may have no future at all because of the things that they are doing right now. Some of those same people are also doing things that are probably going to get them killed in a couple of years, if not sooner. So, this poem We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks relates to me because some of the people that I go to high school with just are not mature enough to know what is right and what is wrong. And some of them know the difference and just chose to ignore it.
Journal #3 (assigned)Why did/does Jim call Laura “Blue Roses”? And why won’t he call on her again?
What poem did you chose
Jim O’Connor, the gentleman caller, calls Laura “Blue Roses” because during high school they both had a class together and Laura got sick and was out of school forPoetry Outloud? What initially drew youa while. But when she came back tothis poem? What do you feel you will gain from this poem? How does it connectclass Jim asked her what happened toyour life as you initially explore it?her to make her sick. And she told him that
The poemI picked forshe had an attack of pleurosis. After she told him about thePoetry Outloud contestpleurosis had realized that he misunderstood her and thought that she had said that she got Blue Roses. Jim calling Laura Blue Roses also symbolizes that even though Laura iscalled “’Hope’very different from other people there is something, extremely special and very alluring about her too. When Jim sees Laura again at that dinner that Tom invited him to, he could not believe that Shakespeare, a.k.a. Tom, and Laura were related much less actually siblings. And Jim will not be calling on her again because he has a serious girlfriend. Laura finds this out as they are dancing because Jim accidentally knocks over thething with feathers”glass unicorn and its horn breaks off. What’s your favorite class so far? And why?
My favorite class so far in thetitle and what it meant. At first whenschool year is Information Systems. It’s a really chill class where Ifirst looked at the titlecan get a lot ofthis poemthings done. And Iautomatically thought it was going to be aboutlearn abird, or some kindlot ofanimal with feathers, pretty cool tricks andthe animal’s amazing story. But whattips that Irealized after reading the poemcan use on my home computer. I choose this class forthe first time thatmy elective because my friends had itwas certainly not about a bird. But it was really about anyonelast year andeverybody.they really enjoyed it, so Ifelt likewanted to try it out. And Iwould be more hopeful, andam really glad that Ialso felt like I would gain hopefulnessdid because it is been awesome so far. Computers have always intrigued me since I was little. When I was younger my community center had thispoemafterschool program, and they still do. Anyways, it is an after school program where kids can do their homework and get to use the computer and learn abouthopethem so my parents signed me andhow every soul hasmy brother and sister to do it. Andif every soul has itthat was where Ishould not be feeling hopelessness iflearned how to type and use the computer for basic things. But Ihave it,stopped going once Ihave to believe it. Andgot into middle school so thisalready connected to my life, because this poem and its meaning helped my friend during a roughclass reminded me of that time. That is actually theSo, another reasonwhy and howthat Ifoundlike thispoem inclass is because thefirst place. As I was tryingteacher is really nice and funny. He allows you to dosomething nice for someone very closeyour own work and listen tome I learned something in return.music but he also requires you to do the work he hands out. He has a great sense of humor and he does this little game thing at the end of each class, and whoever gets the answer right gets a piece of candy. So, right now at the beginning of the school year Information Systems, taught by Mr. Lawrence, is my favorite class.

Character Summary: Victor Frankenstein
Victor Frankenstein is the lead character in the book Frankenstein. At the start of Frankenstein Robert and his crew of men see a man in a dog-drawn sledge from their ship. They lift the man up on board and they nurse the stranger back to health. The stranger then starts to tell Robert his life story and what happened to get him there in the North Pole in the first place. At the start of the book you can see how young, innocent and curious Victor Frankenstein was. He is amazed at science and what it can do. Victor read a lot about many sciences and scientists and he switched from one to another very often. But as the story of Frankenstein goes on Victor steadily changes. By the end of the book he is not the same person he was at the beginning and not in a good way. Victor becomes guilt-ridden because he is the reason that his loved ones are all dead. By the end of the book Victor is the shell of the man he was. At the end of the book you can also see what went wrong. It was at the beginning that he made a mistake that doomed him from then on out. The mistake was that he cut himself off from humanness. By cutting himself off from everyone else he put all of his energy into making the Creature. The book even described how sick he got as he was working on creating the creature. So, at the end the reader realizes that Victor Frankenstein was truly is own worst enemy.
Journal (free write)What genre(s) of books do you normally read?
5 words
The genres of books thatdescribeI probably read thebook Frankenstein.most and regularly would have to be mystery and romance. I think that these two types of genre are the
1. Dark
2. Lies
3. Secrecy
4. Death
5. Science
Dark:word dark describes the book Frankensteinmost exciting becausewhenever there was something happy going on it always had a dark side to it. Like when the Creature was first ‘alive’, it was supposed tothey can bea happy time for Victor because he constructedreal or not. There are mysteries all over theCreature himself. But it did not turn outworld thatway. Instead of it being a happy time the Creature looked horrendouspeople have solved anddisgusting to Victor so he screamed and scaredthere are some that have still not been solved. So, I think mystery books are theCreature which made it ran away.fun to
Lies: this word is another great worddescribe the book Frankensteinread becauseas soon as the Creature was ‘alive’ the lies started to be said. An example of this would be when Justine was accusedof that reason. The really good mysteries captivate you into thekilling of William Frankenstein. Victor knewstory so much that you can’t put itwasdown until you are done with it or if you want another one that goes along with it, like aliesequel. I also like to read romance type books buthe didnotdo anything to stop it. He couldthe ones with drama. I feel like most romance books havetriedway too much drama that does not really need tosave Justine’s life if he had just said something, but he did not. Victor chose to keep the truth to himself.be in
Secrecy: this word goes handhand with the lies. Using the same example, when Justine was accused of killing little William Frankenstein, there because I think itcould have been all prevented if Victor had told his secret. Because Victor keptruins theCreaturestory. So, finding asecret a lot of innocent people were killed because of it. And when hegood romance book for me is really hard. I think the first time that I actuallytriedstarted togo out and tell the police itlike romance books wastoo late. The authorities did not believe him at first and then they claimedwhen I read Twilight. But thatitwastoo dangerous and risky. So he did end up spilling the secret butback when there was no movie I think itwas far too late.was in like 2008. I really liked the
Death: this wordentire book fromTwilight Saga, but not as much anymore because thevery first part tomovies ruined it for me. It really disappointed me when I saw thevery last part. InTwilight movie because I didn’t like both of thevery beginning Victor’s mother died, she was probably the only charactermain characters thatdiedare inthe story that had no correlation to the Creature.every single book. Evenwhen Victor’s father past away it had somethingthough I like romance I would have todo with the Creature.say mystery is
Science:the word was probably onemy favorite genre ofthe most common used through out the story. It was also something that happened a lot, especiallybooks, but if it had some romance inthe beginning.it Isay the beginning because that is where Victor was experimenting with the different types of sciences and what each one talked about. It’s also where Victor thought of the idea to create an actual living thing.would probably read it.

Summary: The Glass Menagerie
The Glass Menagerie is a memory play written by Tennessee Williams. The Glass Menagerie is told by a narrator, Tom Wingfield and the story is made up of his memories. The book is set in St. Louis in the year 1937. Tom Wingfield works in a shoe factory to support his mother, his sister, and himself. Tom is also an aspiring poet. Mr. Wingfield, Tom and Laura’s father, and Amanda’s husband left them many years ago. Amanda, Tom and Laura’s mother, likes to retell her past stories of her youth and her many suitors. She is hugely disappointed that her daughter, Laura, is extremely shy and does not attract many gentlemen callers. Amanda even tries to enroll her in a business school but she finds out weeks later that she threw up in the first class and never came back. So, after that Amanda begins to sell magazine subscriptions to the neighborhood ladies. She thinks that the extra money will help Laura attract gentlemen callers. While this is happening Tom hates his job so much that he turns to alcohol, movies, and books for an escape. During an argument with his mom Tom accidently breaks several of Laura’s glass animals. Amanda then asks her son to keep an eye out for a suitable guy for his sister at the factory. Tom invites Jim O’Connor, a fellow factor worker, over for dinner. And his mother plans an elaborate dinner for him and gets Laura to wear a new dress. When Laura learns his name at the last minute she realizes that it was the same boy that she had a crush on in high school. Amanda pushes Laura to open the door for Jim and they all have a nice dinner until the lights go out because Tom didn’t pay the electric bill. When Jim and Laura find them selves alone they talk about high school and end up dancing. As they’re dancing Jim accidently breaks the horn of the unicorn and kisses her. He then apologizes because he has a serious girlfriend and they plan on getting married. Jim leaves shortly after that, and Amanda blows up on Tom because he didn’t know that Jim was engaged. That’s the last straw for Tom because he storms out and never comes back.

What’s an important symbol that’s there throughout the entire story?
An important symbol that has been there through out the entire story of The Glass Menagerie would have to be the fire escape. The important symbol, the fire escape, was used for many different things through out the entire story. One great example of this would be all the times that Tom would go outside, sit on the rail, and smoke his cigarettes. Tom would go out there and think about getting away and doing something superior, and better with his life then working in a shoe factory. This also relates to one of the themes in the book The Glass Menagerie, because that is one of Tom’s ways to escape the apartment. But he still could not totally escape it because his mom, Amanda, would repeatedly berate him to get inside and to stop smoking. And as his mother does this nagging all the time it gets Tom more and more determined to actually do it and leave her and Laura. Another good example of why the fire escape is an important symbol through out the entire book The Glass Menagerie would be because of that one time in Scene Four where Laura slipped while she was on the fire escape. This example also relates as to why Laura can not escape the apartment no matter how hard she tries to. This also shows how Tom can come and go as he pleases using the fire escape, and how he is going to eventually leave one day, while Laura tried she slipped and failed.

Character Summary: Tom Wingfield
Tom Wingfield is Amanda Wingfield’s son and Laura Wingfield’s younger brother. Tom is a wanna be poet who works at a shoe factory to support his mother, his sister, and himself. His father, Mr. Wingfield abandoned them almost sixteen years ago. Tom also really hates his boring, numbingly plain routine life, so to try to escape it he turns to movies, poems, and alcohol. In the story The Glass Menagerie Tom has two roles, one of these two roles is a character within the actually story, while the other role is him being the narrator. His character sometimes talks directly straight to the audience, unlike the other characters. Tom is a very difficult character to understand through out the story. He is also a very confusing character because even though we know that he writes poetry we do not know what type and that bit of information might help to define his character a little bit more. Another thing that is very confusing about Tom’s character is his attitude towards his mother, Amanda, and his sister, Laura. Even though he loves them both deeply and cares for them too, most of the time he is indifferent to them and a lot of the times he is just plain mean to them. He even deserted them when his mother got anger that they entertained another girl’s fiancé and she blew up at him which lead to him storming out and never coming back. And through out the entire story Tom is never nice to Laura, even the time where he broke some of her glass collection. So, Tom was probably the most confusing and difficult character in the book.

Character Summary: Amanda
The character Amanda Wingfield is Laura and Tom Wingfield’s mother. Her husband abandoned her and her children almost sixteen years ago. But Amanda is still very much a proud, and full of life type of woman. But she still desperately holds on to her refined and southern past. She is also a very charming and sophisticated person. Amanda is a traditional southern belle; her past mostly consists of many social functions and a lot of suitors too. Amanda was probably the most dramatic and theatrical character in the play. She constantly made big deals about the most insignificant things. But you could clearly see that she deeply cares for her loved ones and would do anything for the ones that she loves. Even though she tries very hard to make Laura mold into the young, sociable girl that she was, she would still do anything for her daughter. A great example of this would definitely have to be all the times that she bared the humiliation of having to sell magazine subscriptions to the neighborhood women to enhance her daughter’s chance of gentlemen callers. And she did this all with out complaining once. Going back to how dramatic she was, a great example would be when Tom invited Jim O’Connor over for dinner. Amanda pulled out all the stops for this one dinner to find out at the end that Jim was engaged to another woman and would not be returning for another call. After she found this out Amanda blew up at Tom and that is what lead to him leaving. So, even though Amanda was the most colorful and dramatic character in the story she also really helped the story along.

What kind of effect did the father leaving have on the Wingfields?
The father leaving had a negative effect on everyone in the whole family, excluding him of course. When the father deserted Amanda, Tom, and Laura he basically messed up their entire lives. Because his father left him, Tom was forced to grow up and get a job that he could not stand. He did not have the option of experimenting and finding out what he wanted to do. Tom had to get a paying job to support his sister, his mother, and himself too, and he had to do it quickly. This also forced Tom to go out every night after work to the movies and to get drunk. He would always end up coming back home in the very early mornings. When Mr. Wingfield left his family he also destroyed Laura life in a big way. Because of Mr. Wingfield’s desertion extremely shy and sensitive Laura has to put up with her mother’s pushiness to get a business career and to also get married very quickly. And she also has to face the dilemma of getting really shy to the point of getting sick in front of people. This also doe not help with the gentlemen callers’ issue. Mr. Wingfields abandonment of his family also left his wife to deal with two children on her own. Amanda even has a job selling magazine subscriptions to earn extra money for her daughter to get some gentlemen callers. And she would not have to do this if Mr. Wingfield had not left and abandoned all of his responsibilities as a dad and as a husband.

What are some themes in The Glass Menagerie?
One theme that is from the book The Glass Menagerie is the impossibility of true escape. It is a theme because Tom Wingfield and Laura Wingfield are stuck in their apartment with their mother, Amanda. Tom tries to escape at night by going to the movies every night after work and staying there all night but he can not really totally escape because he eventually goes back home in the early morning. Laura really can not even try to escape from the apartment because she is really sensitive and has a hard time around people, even her own mother. An example of her sensitiveness would be when her mother enrolled her in school and she threw up on the first day because of her nervousness and she never returned again. Laura even walked around in the park in the freezing cold to avoid going back to class. So, even though both Tom and Laura really want to escape and leave their mother they can not because they have things holding them back to actually go through with it. Another theme that is in the book The Glass Menagerie would be the power of memory. This is a theme because the whole book was written as a play that someone wrote up from their memory. The memory that the play is from is Tom’s and he is the narrator through out the whole story. I think because it is told from Tom’s memory it is a little harder to get because you do not know what the other the other characters, you just know Tom’s point of view.

What did you discover during deconstructing Frankenstein? What did you notice about the subtle differences of your group’s word? What does this tell you about language?
I discovered that the words nature and natural come up in the text throughout the story continually. Science was also another word that was constantly appearing in the story too. But the word and topic of science was heavily focused on the first couple chapters of the book because that is when you found out that Victor has always loved science and he also changed what type of science he studied. It was also used a lot when Victor was young and he was still learning things. But back to the word nature, it was used so frequently that it sometimes came up twice in the same page. I learned that my group’s word was mentioned a lot in the book but it would mean different things because of the context. An example would be like the quote on page 13 “Even broken in spirit as he is, on one can feel more deeply than he does the beauties of nature.” And the quote on page 25 “I was not even of the same nature as man.” These very different quotes have the same word in them, nature, but they mean different things because of the context. Another example that would definitely prove this point is a quote on page 110 “he was allowed to converse with and acquire knowledge from beings of a superior nature, but I was wretched, helpless, and alone.” And another quote with the word nature in it would be on page 119 “Nature decayed around me, and the sun became heatless; rain and snow poured…” Looking at these two quotes the only thing that they really have in common with each other is the word nature, but even that means different things in both contexts. All these examples tell me that the language that is used to describe and comment on multiple different things can happen with the same word or words.

Write about a poem that you have a connection to, and that’s important to you.
Last year when we had to do the Poem Outloud project I picked a poem called “’Hope’ is the thing with feathers” by Emily Dickinson. I felt a connection to this poem because at the time that I discovered this poem by Emily Dickinson one of my closest friend was having a situation. And this friend loved poems so I decided to find one for her that would kind of cheer her up a little. So, as I was looking for that type of poem I ran into this poem. At first I was a little hesitate because the title was kind of odd, I thought it was about birds because it had the word feathers in it. But I read it and I immediately fell in love with it and the meaning of it. Of course, when I showed it to my friend she liked it too. Even though this poem was originally for my friend to feel better, it helped me in the long run too. It’s a poem that I will never forget because of its really strong meaning and why I found it in the first place. I also really like the way this poem is written and they way it flows when you read it. The words go perfectly together and even though the poem is kind of short it has a lot of meaning in those few words. Another reason why I have such a deep connection to this poem is because it’s the first one that I have ever had to perform and it meant a lot that it was that certain one.

You are asked by the creature to create another life a companion for him. He promises to go tot the far reaches of the world where no man will find them to live out their lives in peace. Will you do it? Explain.
If the creature asked me to create him a companion I would have because I would feel like owed him some kind of happiness. If I created a creature like that, so ugly and hideous that people were scared at even the sight of him, I would have felt bad that he was going to be alone in the world. And people are easily disgusted by things they do not understand and things that they have never seen before. Because of that I would have created someone one just like the creature so they would both love each other. I would have also wanted the creature far away from my loved ones, and by agreeing to make him a companion they would both leave. And if I did not comply with this then the creature would probably terrorize everyone, and killed more innocent people in the process. What the creature is asking for is not much, he just wants someone to love and accept him the way he is. He has human feelings and acts very much like a human so it would make sense that he would want some type of contact with another person. And if no actual human wants to be with him than a creature that’s created like him would do just fine. Another reason why I would agree to make the creature a companion is because if I do not he might go out and tell people that I created him and people would turn on me because of the murders of William and the trial of Justine.

Who would you sympathize with more, the creature or Victor Frankenstein?
I think I would sympathize with the creature more because he was kind of innocent in the beginning of the story. I use the word innocent because he was basically ‘born’ with the brain of a baby. And he had to figure out everything by himself because his creator did not help him at all. Victor Frankenstein was the one that created the creature but he never actually took care of him, he even ran away the first time the creature opened his eyes! I think all of the deaths could have been prevented if Victor took responsibility of the monster; he was the one that created him so he should be the one to take care of him too. If Victor had made the creature a companion, like he said he would, than Elizabeth would have alive on her wedding night. And with that said Victor should not have destroyed the companion he was working on for the creature because that could have gotten the creature to leave him alone finally. Because of all the things I just listed the creature does not seem that bad of a person to me because he really did not ask to be ‘born’ or made. Like I said, at the beginning when he first opened his eyes he got really confused and when Victor screamed and ran that made it even worse. Because Victor, the creature’s creator, was not there to teach him the simplest stuff, he had to learn by himself.

What genre(s) of books do you normally read?
The genres of books that I probably read the most and regularly would have to be mystery and romance. I think that these two types of genre are the most exciting because they can be real or not. There are mysteries all over the world that people have solved and there are some that have still not been solved. So, I think mystery books are the fun to read because of that reason. The really good mysteries captivate you into the story so much that you can’t put it down until you are done with it or if you want another one that goes along with it, like a sequel. I also like to read romance type books but not the ones with drama. I feel like most romance books have way too much drama that does not really need to be in there because I think it ruins the story. So, finding a good romance book for me is really hard. I think the first time that I actually started to like romance books was when I read Twilight. But that was back when there was no movie I think it was in like 2008. I really liked the Twilight Saga, but not as much anymore because the movies ruined it for me. It really disappointed me when I saw the Twilight movie because I didn’t like both of the main characters that are in every single book. Even though I like romance I would have to say mystery is my favorite genre of books, but if it had some romance in it I would probably read it.

What did you think of the book A Separate Peace in a personal perspective?
I personally would not have picked out A Separate Peace to read on my own. I usually pick out the books I read from recommendations or from reading the back of the book. But I definitely would not have chosen A Separate Peace on a personal level. Reason number one is that this isn’t the type of genre that I normally read. I mostly read mysteries and romance. Reason number two would have to be the way it was written. The writing was pretty close to old English and I find that type of English to be very hard to understand and it is a little boring some times. I feel like that type of writing is also only read by teenagers in school when we have to, so it doesn’t really appeal to me. The number three reason why I would not have picked this book out myself is because of the characters. I mean Phineas, Gene and the rest of them weren’t that bad but they weren’t really that interesting to me. Number four of the many reasons why I would not pick this book out myself is the plot wasn’t what I thought it would be. Because the cover actually looked interesting and the title was fascinating, but the actually plot wasn’t. I thought that it would be a tragic story about a boy, because there was a guy in the cover. And his story was going to be so sad but he got through it, and something along that line. But it wasn’t like that it kind of surprised me a little. Anyways, overall the book was okay but I would not have picked it out myself to read.

What’s your favorite class so far? And why?
My favorite class so far in the school year is Information Systems. It’s a really chill class where I can get a lot of things done. And I learn a lot of pretty cool tricks and tips that I can use on my home computer. I choose this class for my elective because my friends had it last year and they really enjoyed it, so I wanted to try it out. And I am really glad that I did because it is been awesome so far. Computers have always intrigued me since I was little. When I was younger my community center had this afterschool program, and they still do. Anyways, it is an after school program where kids can do their homework and get to use the computer and learn about them so my parents signed me and my brother and sister to do it. And that was where I learned how to type and use the computer for basic things. But I stopped going once I got into middle school so this class reminded me of that time. So, another reason that I like this class is because the teacher is really nice and funny. He allows you to do your own work and listen to music but he also requires you to do the work he hands out. He has a great sense of humor and he does this little game thing at the end of each class, and whoever gets the answer right gets a piece of candy. So, right now at the beginning of the school year Information Systems, taught by Mr. Lawrence, is my favorite class.

How are you doing on your MYP Project? Have you found a advisor yet? Describe what you have done so far and your plan for the next couple of weeks. If you haven’t started, what do you need to do to get along?
I'm doing not so well on my MYP Project. I still haven’t found an advisor yet, because I haven’t found the time and I don’t know who to pick. And when I get started I plan on finding a store, like Sephora or a Macy’s counter to talk to a professional. I want a professional’s advice on skin care and beauty. I’ll probably get one of my friends, or more, to help me by being my test subject(s). I am really excited about this because skin health and health in general is something that I really enjoy reading stuff about or watching videos about it. My plan for the next couple of weeks is to find supervisor and do some research on the internet and find somebody, or people to talk to. I am not too worried about getting the information together, because the internet is a pretty big place to search from. I am really worried about finding a supervisor on time and starting it. My sources for this project are probably going to be YouTube, books, and magazines. I picked those resources because I think they will be useful in this subject. But going back to the supervisor issue, I feel like as soon as I get my supervisor and plan everything out I’ll be ready to go. So, I'm going to have to go to my counselor or whoever runs the program, and get them to help me find a teacher to supervise my project. Until then I can always start to get information and plan.

Free write on MYP Project. Talk about either the subject or the median in which you might be interested in.
What I chose to do for my MYP Project was a health and beauty subject. I want to make a short book explaining the different skin types and what you can do for it. I don’t really want to go too much into it, I just want to explain the basics. I’m thinking about going to a Sephora counter or a Macy’s one and talk to a representative there. I think getting a professional to answer some questions and give me some advice will help me with this project, more then talking to somebody inexperienced. I plan on using magazines and YouTube for resources. I want to use YouTube because I think it is a good place to get solid, real, and honest advice. I think that because the people that do the videos that I watch are using their own money and there own bodies to check these products and see if they do what they promise to do. And the people that I watch do this stuff for to help other people find things to work for their similar skin types. And I plan on using magazines because they have basically the same stuff that I mentioned for YouTube. But on the other hand they have professionals that check the information and there are professionals that give the advice too. I am probably going to use Seventeen magazines, Cosmopolitan, and others like that. I think this project is going to be a lot of fun to make and I feel like I am going to learn a lot of stuff and information doing it.

“’Stories have to be told or they die, and when they die, we can’t remember who we are or why we’re here.’” – The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd.
I think stories are one thing in history that change but stay constant. The topics of the stories may differ but in every time period there were so many stories that were told. They represent lives, families, traditions, people and their lives in general. With out stories many of us would question a lot of things like ourselves and our lives. To me this quote is saying that if people don’t tell stories and let the stories die parts of them dies too. With out people telling stories to each other, then future generations wouldn’t be able to hear about all the great things that happened, and all the mistakes people did in history so they don’t make the same ones. Or people would forget all the many people that made the world as it is today. From the beginning of time stories have been told by everyone and about everything. Stories have even been used in movies, books, and so much more. They are in our everyday lives, and people make stories up all the time. Most stories talk about people and the way they are. These stories describe people and they also remind people where they came from. The quote also talks about how stories have to be told. You can’t always write, some things can not be written. Telling the story is almost has important as the story itself. Overall without stories many things, and many people, would forget the things that make them the way they are and why they’re here in the first place.

Explain
Explain some important...book Frankenstein.
So, overall dangerous knowledge and secrecy were some very important themes in the book Frankenstein.

...Real Cool

What poem did you chose for Poetry Outloud? What initially drew you to this poem? What do you feel you will gain from this poem? How does it connect to your life as you initially explore it?
The poem that I picked for the Poetry Outloud contest is called “’Hope’ is the thing with feathers” and the author is Emily Dickinson. The thing that initially drew me into reading this poem for the first time would definitely have to be the title and what it meant. At first when I first looked at the title of this poem I automatically thought it was going to be about a bird, or some kind of animal with feathers, and the animal’s amazing story. But what I realized after reading the poem for the first time that it was certainly not about a bird. But it was really about anyone and everybody. I felt like I would be more hopeful, and I also felt like I would gain hopefulness because this poem is about hope and how every soul has it. And if every soul has it I should not be feeling hopelessness if I have it, I have to believe it. And this already connected to my life, because this poem and its meaning helped my friend during a rough time. That is actually the reason why and how I found this poem in the first place. As I was trying to do something nice for someone very close to me I learned something in return.

5 words that describe the book Frankenstein.
1. Dark
2. Lies
3. Secrecy
4. Death
5. Science
Dark: the word dark describes the book Frankenstein because whenever there was something happy going on it always had a dark side to it. Like when the Creature was first ‘alive’, it was supposed to be a happy time for Victor because he constructed the Creature himself. But it did not turn out that way. Instead of it being a happy time the Creature looked horrendous and disgusting to Victor so he screamed and scared the Creature which made it ran away.
Lies: this word is another great word to describe the book Frankenstein because as soon as the Creature was ‘alive’ the lies started to be said. An example of this would be when Justine was accused of the killing of William Frankenstein. Victor knew it was a lie but he did not do anything to stop it. He could have tried to save Justine’s life if he had just said something, but he did not. Victor chose to keep the truth to himself.
Secrecy: this word goes hand in hand with the lies. Using the same example, when Justine was accused of killing little William Frankenstein, it could have been all prevented if Victor had told his secret. Because Victor kept the Creature a secret a lot of innocent people were killed because of it. And when he actually tried to go out and tell the police it was too late. The authorities did not believe him at first and then they claimed that it was too dangerous and risky. So he did end up spilling the secret but it was far too late.
Death: this word was in the entire book from the very first part to the very last part. In the very beginning Victor’s mother died, she was probably the only character that died in the story that had no correlation to the Creature. Even when Victor’s father past away it had something to do with the Creature.
Science: is the word was probably one of the most common used through out the story. It was also something that happened a lot, especially in the beginning. I say the beginning because that is where Victor was experimenting with the different types of sciences and what each one talked about. It’s also where Victor thought of the idea to create an actual living thing.
